Montoir at the Heart of WEC Lines’ New "Butterfly" Shipping Service
Announced at the International Week event in Nantes by the Greater Western France Shippers’ Club and Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port, the launch of the NWC Spain "Butterfly" liner service, operated by WEC Lines, marks a strategic advance for the port facility of Montoir de Bretagne.
EC Lines launched a first liner shipping service at the end of 2023. The result of extensive background work, this new service meets the logistical needs of the hinterland, representing significant markets for businesses in Greater Western France: Spain is the fifth largest supplier to businesses in the Pays de la Loire Region, while the United Kingdom is their second largest customer. It offers a low-carbon container shipping service that complements road haulage, making it an attractive modal shift option with competitive transit times and pricing.
A Key Port of Call
In this way, Montoir de Bretagne becomes a key port of call for the NWC Spain service, with fast transit to Bilbao in just two days, efficient rail connections to major Spanish hubs (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia…), and fast intermodal connections from Liverpool to Belfast, Mossend and Greenock in the UK. This service also offers intermodal solutions to the Paris Region.
In a global sense, WEC Lines offers logistics solutions close to the Montoir de Bretagne terminal to attract and secure flows.
This new service illustrates the commitment of local stakeholders to developing sustainable and efficient solutions for shippers, while strengthening Montoir’s position in European trade exchanges.
