At the end of April, the 61st and final wind turbine for the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier offshore wind farm (EMYN) was installed at sea. Here’s a look back at the port-based logistics involved in the construction of this wind farm, which was completed with the very last rotation of the Vole au Vent on 10th April.

The project got underway in November 2024, with the first blades arriving at the quays in Saint Nazaire.
Since then, 61 wind turbines, each weighing 1 500 tonnes and with a unit capacity of 8 MW, have passed through the port facilities. In terms of the number of port calls, 36 took place at the Quai de la Prise d’Eau and Quai des Charbonniers quays to supply the blades, towers and nacelles, using three vessels: the Rotra Mare, the Rotra Vente and the Combi Dock 1;

At the Joubert sluice dock, for the installation phase, 18 calls have been made by the Vole au Vent  since 1st May 2025. This amounts to 2 600 hours of operation of the LHM port cranes, used to provision the components and to load them onto the Vole au Vent.

These activities required a full-scale mobilization and all the know-how of the Port Community professionals involved. These included: within Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port, the Saint Nazaire operations personnel for studies, maritime and land-based work operations, operational engineering, operational support, inshore piloting and harbour master’s office services, as well as Sogebras, the Port Labour Consortium, Atlantique Manutention, Les Éoliennes en Mer Services, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Power, OW Ocean Winds and Jan De Nul Group.
