Maintenance Work on Ro-Ro Pontoon N°3

Saint-Nazaire

On 16th April, ro-ro pontoon N° 3 was detached from its gangway and moored at general cargo and container terminal berth N° 5 at Montoir de Bretagne, prior to its transfer to the docks in Saint Nazaire. In early May, it was then moved to the Joubert sluice dock, where the teams carried out the blocking work and dry docking operations in preparation for its maintenance turnaround, which began in mid-May.

The ro-ro pontoons are subject to a major maintenance programme every 10 years. Following pontoon N° 2 and the Cheviré pontoon, it is now the turn of pontoon N° 3 at the Montoir de Bretagne ro-ro terminal to undergo an overhaul.

Pontoon N° 3 entered the Joubert sluice dock on 12th May, with the assistance of a Compagnie Fluviale de Transport (CFT) push tug… for a 10-week-long full refit. Following the preparation, blocking and scaffolding stages, the schedule comprises the refit and painting work along with several technical operations (guide collar, pivot connection and bogies for the access gangway).

This maintenance turnaround is set to last until the end of July and involves Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port’s various maintenance, operations and engineering personnel, supported by a number of external contractors. At the same time, teams from Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port will be carrying out work on the berth’s gangways, at the foot of the Pont de Saint-Nazaire bridge.
