RTE Visits the Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Industrial and Port Activity Zone

On 18th September, the Decarbonization and Energy Transitions Department at Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port welcomed a delegation from electricity transmission system operator RTE to Montoir de Bretagne.

The 17-strong delegation comprised members of the national teams responsible for industrial customer connections, and representatives from RTE’s Western France Regional Division.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the progress of industrial projects underway in the industrial and port activity zone and the challenges that they face in terms of electricity supply.

Electrification is a key driver for the decarbonization of industrial and logistics activities. As public sector organizations, both RTE and Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port must take a proactive and agile approach to adapting their infrastructure to these new challenges. This is the very purpose of the Loire Estuary Decarbonization initiative, to which RTE and the Port Authority are contributing through the ADELE Association.

The discussions, which were followed by a tour of the quays, emphasized the shared viewpoints of Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port and RTE as regards these issues of transformation and industrial sovereignty. The meeting also highlighted the richness and diversity of the industrial projects currently being rolled out in the port area, whether in terms of marine renewable energy, low-carbon fuels, shipbuilding or the aerospace sector.
