On 10th October, at Idea Groupe’s premises at Montoir de Bretagne, the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique Brittany-Atlantic Region Maritime Cluster (PMBA) held a BlueEvent on the topic of "The Technical Issues and Challenges in the Life of a Container".

At this day-long event, which was attended by some thirty participants, the subject of discussion was the impressive growth of container shipping, which poses numerous technological development challenges in seeking to meet the requirements not just of competitiveness, but also of regional development, ecological transition, sovereignty, and protection.

The event offered the opportunity to engage in debate and to foster collaboration in many areas of technological innovation, such as the digital supply chain, data sharing, connectivity, tracking, port equipment and infrastructures, safety and security, and cyber security.

The BlueEvent featured a series of round-table discussions. In introducing the event, Pascal Fréneau, Deputy Managing Director of Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port, spoke about the lower carbon intensity made possible by the proximity of shipping services, with notably the reduced need for road haulage, and underlined the ongoing efforts to develop new digital services. Jérôme Bodet, Managing Director of Terminal du Grand Ouest (TGO), referred to the importance of the container sector to global trade, and to the dynamics of growth in traffic volumes. The day began with a guided tour of TGO in the company of the Terminal’s Director.
