Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port Attends Meet4 Hydrogen

This business convention dedicated to hydrogen applications in the maritime, inland waterway, port, aviation, space and airport sectors took place in Bordeaux on 23rd and 24th June. Over the course of two days of conferences, business meetings and networking, the team from the Decarbonization & Energy Transitions Department at Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port was on hand to present its projects during the round-table discussion focussing on ports.

Gwennina Croizer was thus able to provide an overview of CO₂ emissions across the industrial and port activity zone, broken down into four categories: the energy port, the logistics port, the industrial port and the institutional port. Following this analysis, a presentation was made of the Loire Estuary Decarbonization initiative, which forms part of the Low-Carbon Industrial Zone ("ZIBaC") programme driven by ADEME, the French National Agency for Energy Transition.

The aim of this collective initiative is both to decarbonize industry in the broadest sense and to transform the carbon-based energy hub into a decarbonized energy hub, whilst taking into account the challenges posed by climate change and pressure on resources.

To this end, the Elengy LNG terminal and the TotalEnergie refinery have invested heavily – and continue to do so – in order to decarbonize their processes. New activities are emerging, notably the GO CO2, Green Coast and Take Kair projects. These projects will require significant shared infrastructure. In the case of hydrogen, a consortium comprising Natran, Elengy, Lhyfe, Hynamics and Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port is working to identify the infrastructures needed to meet local demand, whilst also providing a service to the network and potentially exporting to the rest of France and Europe.
