Laying of the Foundation Stone for the Ulysse Project
On 24th September, Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port stood alongside Elengy for the laying of the foundation stone for the Ulysse project, a symbolic step marking the launch of a major programme to decarbonize and to upgrade the Montoir de Bretagne LNG terminal.
The aim is to reduce emissions from this process by 85 % and to contribute to the efforts to move the facility towards net-zero by 2030.
Going beyond its technical aspects, the Ulysse Project demonstrates the Regional Community’s ability to address at one and the same time the challenges posed by energy sovereignty, industrial competitiveness and green transition. It also evidences the strength of the Loire Estuary’s industrial, port- and energy-related ecosystem, which is based on cooperation between public and private sector players.
As Chair of Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port’s Management Board Jean-Rémy Villageois pointed out: "The Ulysse Project demonstrates that the challenges of energy sovereignty and decarbonization are also drivers of innovation and industrial transformation. It strengthens infrastructure that is essential to the country’s energy supply, improves its environmental performance, and paves the way for the energy developments of the future."
Through this project, Elengy and Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port are pursuing a shared ambition: to make the Loire Estuary a benchmark region for energy and industrial transition.
