Unbarked Log

Felled, lopped tree-trunk covered in bark.

Under Tackles (Quotation)

At loading, the cargo is positioned directly below the lifting tackle at the shipper’s expense, while the costs of hoisting the cargo and placing it under hatches are paid by the shipowner. At unloading, the cargo is unstowed, slung, hoisted clear of the hatchways as necessary, and positioned on deck at the shipowner’s expense, all other operations being payable by the receiving agent.

Unstuffing (or Devanning or Stripping)

Action of emptying of a container.

Upriver (or Upstream)

Part of the river nearest to the river’s source; at the Port of Nantes – Saint Nazaire, the upriver sites are Nantes, Wilson, Cheviré and Roche Maurice.
