Operations (Shipping)

There are various types of shipping operations, depending on whether a company consolidates and loads cargo via a network of agencies without operating its own vessels (indirect operations), or using its own vessels (direct operations), in a conference, or as an outsider, in a pool or a consortium.

Outsiders

Liner service operators who are not members of a maritime conference.

Overpanamax

1) describes a vessel whose breadth does not permit her to pass through the Panama Canal (approximately 60 000 deadweight tons and 42 metres in breadth);

2) designates a piece of handling equipment suitable for overpanamax vessels.

Owner (or Freighter)

Person who provides the vessel for charter and who receives the corresponding freight in return.
