Conditions of Access and Applications for Access

The ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code adopted by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) on 12th December 2002, relates both to vessels and to port installations.

Created in order to prevent terrorist threats, the ISPS Code was transcribed into European Community Law in April 2004.

In France, in addition to the ISPS Code, the "Vigipirate" National Security Alert System requires that port directors draw up a "Port Security Plan", which is then rolled out at a local level via access control installations and procedures to determine who is authorized to gain access to the port facilities.
