Start of Work on the Alstom Factories

The ceremony marking the start of work on the factories that will be building the nacelles and alternators for the HaliadeTM 150 – 6MW offshore wind turbine was held at Montoir de Bretagne on 21st January, in the presence of Jean-Marc Ayrault, the French Prime Minister. From 2014, these turbines will equip France’s three wind farms, notably the wind farm off Saint Nazaire, for which the Maritime Wind Power France Consortium (EDF EN, Dong Energy, Nass and Wind, WPD) was the successful bidder in 2012.

The development of a 14-hectare area is planned at the location of the current ro-ro berths, between the general cargo and container terminal and the Pont de Saint Nazaire Bridge. The preparatory work has already started for the establishment of a centre for industrial operations, with the transfer of the ro-ro berths, the construction of a new ro-ro berth N° 3 to replace berth N° 4 and the groundwork on the plots of land.

Some One Hundred Turbines per Year
Alstom is therefore beginning work on building its two factories, with a view to launching the series production of this wind turbine. The Company is planning eventually to produce around one hundred units every year.
