Reinforcement of the Second Section of the Quai de la Prise d'Eau Quay

QPEIn the Saint Nazaire industrial and port activity zone, the second phase of reinforcement work at the Quai de la Prise d'Eau facility commenced in the spring.

Two years ago, Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port began work on the reinforcement of the Quai de la Prise d'Eau quay, so as to adapt the maritime structure to meet the growing requirements of the general industrial and MRE sectors. With a load bearing capacity of 15 tonnes per m², the quay has been used to ship a foundation jacket and a top side of an electrical substation weighing several thousands of tonnes, produced at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique Shipyard’s Anemos plant. In order to extend the handling area and in response to future needs, a start has now been made on the second phase of work, which has been entrusted to Charier GC, the company that secured the contract for the work concerned.

Thirty-two further metres, representing a surface area of 1 000 m², are to be added to the 40-metre strip that has already been reinforced, in order to facilitate the handling operations involved in loading XXL components. The excavation work was completed in June. The core drilling work on the old slab of the quay is in progress. That operation will permit the installation this summer of 40 piles, using the vibro-sinking and driving method. The work project will be finished in November.

The work represents an investment of 1.2 M€, co-financed by Central Government, the Regional Authority, the Departmental Authority, Saint Nazaire Urban Area District Authority and Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port, via the 2015-2020 Central Government − Regional Government planning agreement operation to create an industrial pre-assembly facility.
