The Harbour Master’s Office

The Harbour Master’s Office is in charge of the reception of vessels. Its missions are to police, to regulate and to monitor maritime and inland water traffic movements in the Port’s waters, as well as loading and unloading operations, notably for hazardous cargoes.

It ensures the safety and security of port users and is the Port Authority’s permanent representative with regard to port users.

The Maritime Traffic Service guarantees the proper management of port calls. It coordinates all the operations concerned and places all the various specialisms involved in vessel port calls (ship’s pilots, tugboat operators, inshore pilots, etc.) in contact with one another.
All such information is centralized on Gimnaute (the computer-aided management of vessel movements utilizing Extranet technology).

The Harbour Master’s Office is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It employs 38 people including 4 Harbour Masters.
