Shipping Agents / Ship’s Agents

The shipping agent (or ship’s agent when he has responsibility for the vessel’s port operations), is a service provider acting as authorized agent for his principal, the shipowner (or ship’s manager). He specializes in the organization of transport operations including transportation by sea.

He delivers the cargo, collects the freight and manages the costs generated by the vessel during the port call (shipchandling, piloting, tugging, etc.).

Independent shipping agents may represent several shipowners.
