Cargo Handlers

Cargo handling firms carry out the physical handling operations done in a port, either using rented equipment or with their own plant. Such firms are service providers acting on behalf of shipping companies, ship’s agents or freight forwarders, and play a pivotal role, being in contact with the representatives of the shippers and receiving agents, with the vessel and the Port.

The cargo handler carries out all the stowing and unstowing, ship loading and discharging operations, including storage in sheds and open-air storage movements. He may also be responsible for cargo warehousing, reception and management quayside.
