Expanding Railfreight Activities

Nantes – Saint Nazaire Port owns a 40-kilometre-long port-based rail network. The Port Authority has chosen to entrust the operation and operational maintenance of its rail network to Europorte, the company appointed to manage the rail infrastructures.

The characteristics of this network permit the reception of block trains at all the port facilities, without any particular size or load restrictions. With an integrated management approach and connection to the national rail network, Nantes – Saint Nazaire Port is endeavouring to develop railfreight. Two main actions are being undertaken in the coming years in order to increase the traffic volumes: adding to the block-train transport offer by increasing the reception capacity of the electrified track on the Le Priory site at Montoir de Bretagne and assisting the development of the container terminal via a combined transport project on the site of the Montoir de Bretagne harbour station.
