The 2017 Action Programme

On 8th December, the Nantes − Saint Nazaire Cruise Shipping Club held its annual general meeting at Montoir de Bretagne. Chairman James Le Cocq reported on the cruise liner calls in 2016 and the forecasts for next year. In total, 8 cruise ships were received this year. 2017 looks promising, with 12 calls already registered.

With a 25-strong membership comprising Local and Regional Government bodies (Pays de la Loire Regional Authority, Loire Atlantique Departmental Authority, Nantes and Saint Nazaire City Councils), tourist offices, Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port, port and tourism professionals as well as qualified figures, the Cruise Shipping Club focusses on developing cruise liner calls on the Loire Estuary.

The new dynamic for welcoming cruise ship passengers to the Loire Estuary has been encouraged by the adoption of the programme of promotion and market exploration actions, involving the globalization of a tourism offer for the destination, participation in the sector’s trade shows, the organization of a familiarization tour for cruise shipping lines at The Bridge 2017, membership of the CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), and so on.

In the short term, Nantes − Saint Nazaire’s ambition is to become the cruise terminal for Southern Brittany. On 8th December, the Cruise Shipping Club took possession of the keys to achieve that ambition.
