A Visit to China to Begin New Cooperation Initiatives

During the month of October, a delegation from Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port and Port Atlantique Bordeaux took part in a trade mission to Guangzhou (Canton), Shenzhen and Hong Kong, to promote their shipping and logistics services in Southern Asia. This mission was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement with 12 of the World’s other major ports, concerning the technological and environmental changes that will mould the ports of tomorrow.

Building lasting links with Asian partners and forming new relationships in order to develop new trade flows, those were the objectives of this trade mission to China led by the two Ports on France’s Atlantic Seaboard.

In the first place, the delegation went to Southern Asia, to Guangzhou (Canton), Shenzhen and Hong Kong, in order to seek out new markets. Following the example of Bordeaux, Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port laid the beginnings of commercial cooperation with the Port of Guangzhou. The delegation also met groups of logistics firms and shippers interested in investing in Greater Western France.

An Agreement between 14 of the World’s Major Ports

In Shenzhen, Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port and Bordeaux Port Atlantique participated in the second edition of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Forum and in the fifth edition of the PortChain Strategy of Shenzhen International Forum. During this visit, the Atlantic Ports signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Port of Shenzhen and 11 other ports of international stature (Hamburg, Halifax, Rotterdam, Copenhagen/Malmö, Antwerp, Incheon, Zeebrugge, Barcelona, Sohar Port and Freezone, Port Klang and Indonesian Corporation Group). The aim of the agreement is to strengthen the links between the different port authorities and thereby to promote exchanges concerning the technological and environmental changes that will mould the ports of tomorrow.

In the second place, the delegation from Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port set out to meet with Chinese investors, consolidating pre-existing contacts in Beijing, Qingdao and Shanghai. This mission served to further establish relationships with partners in the areas of logistics, agri-foodstuffs and industry.
