Progress Report on the GCCT Quay Extension Work

The work to extend the quay of the general cargo and container terminal (GCCT) by 350 metres is continuing at Montoir de Bretagne, as per the agreed schedule. One year after the work commenced, half the 580 foundation piles required to support the 350-metre quay extension have been driven in place. The concrete slab is being laid and the tie rods installed. As the project manager, Nantes − Saint Nazaire Port has charged Bouygues Civil Engineering Division with carrying out the work. The delivery of the new facility is scheduled for the autumn of 2017.

This development will make it possible to meet the new requirements of container traffic, since the evolution of the world’s fleet makes it necessary to be able to receive vessels with a capacity of 6 000 to 8 000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Part of the quay extension will be reserved for industrial cargo handling operations.
