A Test Consignment to Sweden

On 7th and 8th October, a first consignment of wood waste recycling products took place at the Cheviré terminal, managed by terminal operator Nantes Port Terminal. The Ostgard left Nantes with 1 730 tonnes of cargo on board, bound for Södertälje in Sweden. Recycling company Paprec Recyclage of Saint Herblain (Loire Atlantique) chose Sea Invest as the cargo handler and ship’s agent for this export operation.

Such class B wood waste recycling products (wood chips, pallets, etc.) are widely used in Sweden as fuel for boilers, as over 80 % of the installations equipping Sweden’s largest towns and cities now operate thanks to the incineration of waste or biomass. Sweden has brought in specific equipment for the task and is ahead of the rest of Europe when it comes to reutilizing waste products.

This test voyage could open the way for other, regular consignments of products in this promising sector, whether to Sweden or to other European countries.
