Equity Holding in Maritime Rail Services

Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port has acquired an equity holding in Maritime Rail Services, the rail operator at the Port of La Rochelle.

The current shareholders in this simplified stock company are La Rochelle Port Authority (75.1 %) and Euro Cargo Rail (24.9 %), which is itself the French subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. It is envisaged that the equity investment would take the form of a stock transfer from La Rochelle Port Authority to its Loire Estuary counterpart.

New Objectives

Having a common rail operator will make it possible to identify fresh opportunities and to offer new prospective transport solutions, so as to develop pre- and post-carriage by rail and to promote modal shift. That should also encourage the emergence of logistics bases inland and give weight to the dialogue with French Network Rail Organization RFF, to develop national rail freight service provision and guarantee the quality of train paths.
